British Paragliding Championships 2008

Locations and dates the 2008 British Championships are as follows:

Pedro Bernardo, Spain (Sistema Central, South face of Gredos): Mon June 2 - Sat June 7 ( Registration Sat 31 May/ Sun 1 June )
* Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st of June will be run as training / practice days.

The Long Mynd, UK: Wed June 25 – Sat June 28 (Registration Tue June 24 )
* This year retrieves will be provided at this event.

British and Dutch Open St Andre, France: Sun Aug 17 – Sat Aug 23 (Registration Sat Aug 16 )
* This year the St. Andre Open will be a combined open with the Dutch. All competitors will compete individually for the open title; but each nation will have a separate championship ranking for their national championship.

All will be run as FAI CAT 2 competitions so they qualify for world ranking points.

To qualify for this price you must pay for all three competitions at the same time
 
Mon 02 June - Sat 07 June: Pedro Bernardo - Spain Max pilots: 150 £145 Paid by Sun 20 April:

  • PLEASE NOTE: The St Andre round is now full, a further 20 pilots will be selected based on WPRS ranking on 17th June. See the notes below for the full details of the waiting list procedure.

  • Your place will not be guaranteed until:
    1. You meet the minimum requirements shown on the rules page.
    2. We have received your payment details
    3. You have passed the experience review
    4. There are places available
  • The registration will be run on a 'first paid, first served' basis up to 20 less than the pilot limits shown above. Pilots will then be added to waiting lists and a further 20 pilots selected for each competition based on their WPRS ranking.
    • The waiting list for each competition will be processed on the following dates:
      1. Pedro Bernardo 2nd April using 1st April WPRS
      2. Long Mynd 25th April using 1st April WPRS
      3. St. Andre 17th June using 1st June WPRS.
    • Successful waiting list applicants will have 1 week to pay before their place is offered to the next pilot on the list.
    • All selection conflicts will be resolved using the relevant WPRS rankings.
  • Payment for each event will be taken as soon as you have been accepted. Refunds will only be given if you tell us by email at least 2 weeks before the event starts, in which case a fee will be charged to cover admin expenses.
  • If you delay, you risk not having a place. Get your registration and payment details to us as early as possible.
  • To qualify for a discount for all 3 events we must receive payment by the deadline
  • All Open results count to the Open Championship
  • All Open results for British FAI card holders with 'Advanced Pilot' rating count towards the British Championship
  • Dates and discount arrangements will be strictly applied.
  • The status of applications will be shown on the website.
  • You must pay 6 weeks before a competition starts to get the early payment discount.
  • If you are accepted from the Waiting List at the event you must pay cash, in the local currency.


  • Payment can be made in one of the following ways:
     
  • On-line - using our secure site with a Credit Card or UK Debit Card. 
  • By Post - send us a Cheque in Pounds Sterling.

  • On-line : Our secure web facility uses data encryption for the protection of your card details. If you wish to pay for more than one person's entry fee you must pay online logged-in as each pilot, or contact us and tell us the pilot names and card holder name. You must also notify us if the cardholder details are different in any way to your registration form. Your card will be charged for all competition legs for which you are entered at the same time. If we get your details after the reduced payment date then you will be charged the full amount. Please contact us at ASAP if you have payment problems.

    Cheques must be made payable to: BHPA Paragliding Competitions Committee. Please post them to:
    British Paragliding Championships, 13 Kerrison Place, London, W5 5NG.
    Print clearly the pilot name(s) and association number(s) on the back of the cheque. If you require a receipt you must include a self addressed envelope.

    Payment Surcharges
    The charges that are imposed on us by the bank will be passed on to you as follows:
     
  • Cheques in Pounds Sterling: No charge
  • Online payments: 2.0% - (Visa, MasterCard), Free - (Visa-Delta, Switch, Maestro, Solo)
  • We can NOT accept American Express
  • Payment charges are set according to the real cost of providing these facilities. We do not aim to make a profit.

    The British Club Challenge
    If you are interested in learning the art of competition and XC flying, the British Club Challenge (BCC) is a club based competition series that may provide the training and encouragement you need. Many pilots have developed from Club Pilot to hardened XC pilots in a short time. Check out the website, www.flybcc.co.uk for the ethos and organisation and see if your club can get a team together.
